Volvo Reports Sales Growth Worldwide

As the global economy begins to recover from the Coronavirus pandemic, Volvo is no exception. In July, Volvo reported worldwide growth of 14.2 percent over the same period last year. SUV’s continued to be a driving factor for Volvo sales, with S60/V60 models contributing.

SUV’s accounted for over 72 percent of total sales in July. The XC40 was the company’s top selling model with XC60 and XC90 following, respectively.

Aiding in this growth was the company’s growing desirability for electric models, doubling in the first seven months of 2020 compared to 2019’s sales numbers. According to IHS data, Volvo Cars led the charge in premium electric car sales in the European market.

In August, Volvo Cars’ sales stayed strong, growing over seven percent worldwide. Sales within the United States continued to grow, with a 12 percent increase since last year over the same period, up from 10 percent growth the previous month. Volvo Car Group Surpasses 600,000 CMA Platform Cars Sold

For those unfamiliar with the CMA platform, it stands for Compact Modular Architecture. For Volvo Cars and strategic affiliates Lynk & Co and Polestar, this platform encompasses the XC40, as well as others including the Polestar 2.

The CMA platform debuted in 2017 with the release of the XC40, helping the company on their way to becoming the first manufacturer to commit to electrification of all their cars. Volvo already offers various PHEV variants with their T8 trim levels, but the XC40 aims to be offered in only electric or hybrid by 2025. This goal is very realistic considering deliveries of the all-new XC40 Recharge coming later this year. Find out more about how the CMA platform will keep breaking records.

Cyan Racing Debuts Their Resto-Mod P1800

One of Volvo’s most iconic cars is their P1800, especially considering the late Irv Gordon drove his over 3-million miles. The P1800 was brought back in spirit in 2006 with the Volvo C30 based on the P1 chassis. With a large rear window making up most of the hatch’s real-estate, you can notice similarities between the two models, even if there is 40 years between the two.

Cyan Racing’s P1800 was restored using high strength steel and carbon fiber, allowing for over 300 pounds of weight savings as their example weighs in at just 990 kilograms (2,182 pounds). The car’s chassis sits on fully adjustable suspension including double wishbones and custom two-way dampers.

The engine bay is somewhat homologous to the original set-up from the factory. Retaining driver enjoyability, there is no ABS or traction control to interfere with your input to the huge, four-piston calipers. While the engine is no B18 redblock (and for good reason), Cyan Racing put in a 2.0 liter VEA engine similar to what’s found in their S60 TC1 race car putting out 420 horsepower and 335 lb/ft of torque. As whiteblock enthusiasts, we would have loved to see a five cylinder, but we can’t complain with just how awesome this car came out to be. Read the full debut article on Cyan Racing's news page.

BMC Air Filters

BMC Performance Drop-In Air Filters install into your factory air-box with no modification needed. BMC Air Filters are made of highly performing materials that allow increased air-flow combined with more efficient filtration for the best all around performance. Factory filters are filtering out contaminants down to 10 Microns (Micron is a millionth of a meter) while BMC Air Filters filter down to 7 Microns. BMC filters are made of a multi-layered cotton gauze soaked with low viscosity oil covered with an epoxy coated alloy mesh to ensure protection from petrol fumes and oxidization due to air humidity.
